This bill removes the exemption to the applicability of the provisions of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act of 2006 for directors of soil and water conservation districts. As a result, such candidates will now be subject to campaign finance reporting requirements. However, the bill provides that a candidate may qualify for an exemption from the reporting requirements if they do not solicit or accept campaign contributions, do not contribute more than $1,000 to their own campaign, and do not spend more than $1,000 on their campaign. The bill also specifies that a candidate cannot qualify for office or receive a salary until a final report detailing all financial activity of their campaign has been filed.
