This bill amends the Education Code to provide increased flexibility in the use of the Instructional Materials Allotment (IMA). Specifically, it allows school districts to use IMA funds not only to purchase instructional materials, but also to pay for training of educational personnel on the use of those materials, as well as the salaries of employees directly involved in student learning or providing technical support for the use of technological equipment. The bill applies beginning with the 2017-2018 school year and takes effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote of both legislative chambers, or on September 1, 2017 if it does not.
