This bill amends the Arizona Revised Statutes to prohibit the creation and distribution of "deceptive and fraudulent deepfakes" of candidates for elected office within 90 days of an election, unless the synthetic media includes a clear disclosure that it was generated by artificial intelligence. The bill defines "deceptive and fraudulent deepfake" as synthetic media that depicts a candidate with the knowledge of its falsity and the intent to injure the candidate's reputation, and is intentionally calculated to mislead a reasonable person. The bill provides exemptions for media that constitutes satire or parody, and for interactive computer services. Violations of the disclosure requirement are subject to civil penalties.
